Europe’s longest pedestrian area

Technically it’s a “Ztl”, an area where traffic is restricted and only a few selected cars can drive, such as residents’ cars. But we like to think of it as a magical transformation of the street to Europe’s longest pedestrian area that happens every summer. The 10-kilometer area is open to pedestrians every day from 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. until the 12^th of September.

Thanks to this ordinance pedestrians can walk freely on the whole lane and curb, except for the bicycle lane (if present). Where and when the Ztl applies, all parked vehicles must be removed before the starting hour. Tourists and travellers who are staying in the ztl’s accommodation must exhibit the prescribed permit to pass through.
