The Vogalonga

On 28th of May the Lagoon will host the 47th edition of the Vogalonga, the amateur sporting event that covers a 40-kilometre track.

The sound of the cannon in the basin of St. Mark’s marks the exciting start of the race for the approximately 2000 boats that wind along the route in the lagoon, lapping the island of Sant’Elena, skirting the Certosa, the Vignole and the island of Sant’Erasmo before reaching Burano, Murano and returning to the city through the Cannaregio canal in front of thousands of cheering spectators. The final and triumphant parade is in Canal Grande, under the pinnacles of Rialto and Accademia, to reach the basin in front of Punta della Dogana. www.vogalonga.com
